The teenager from North Carolina reported strolling along the strip with her friends and family on April 26 when she heard gunshots. Serenity Chavis attempted to flee but was struck in the leg by a bullet. Although she didn’t sense the impact, she experienced a loss of control in her leg and endeavored to move away by crawling and calling for assistance.

“The (officer) that shot me stood in front of me and told me that he was sorry. He just kept saying sorry, and I just kept saying, ‘Please help me,’” Serenity Chavis. “I asked, ‘Am I gonna die?’”

A shooting occurred in downtown Myrtle Beach on April 26, resulting in a police officer fatally shooting one person and injuring 11 others, including Chavis. Authorities confirmed that Jerrius Davis, 18, from Bennettsville, was shot by a Myrtle Beach police officer after allegedly firing his gun near Ripley’s Mirror Maze on North Ocean Boulevard. The incident was investigated by both Myrtle Beach Police and the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division.

Serenity Chavis claimed no recollection of witnessing Davis firing his weapon, even though it is the primary account provided by the Myrtle Beach police.

“The boy was running behind me; he wasn’t shooting. The police was telling him to drop his gun, but he wasn’t shooting, and they just started shooting, and they hit him first,” Serenity Chavis said.

A 13-year-old boy from Virginia was struck by a bullet during the shooting, according to civil rights lawyer John C. Barnett. There is still at least one shooting victim in critical condition at the hospital.

Kendra Malloy reported that Chavis got shot in the leg, requiring a surgery lasting more than seven hours. Chavis remained hospitalized for five days and is anticipated to rely on a wheelchair for six months.

Myrtle Beach City residents and merchants have also questioned Mayor Brenda Bethune’s handling of the shooting incident.

Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune

Locals are now demanding Mayor Bethune hold Prock accountable. Bethune should hold a press conference and provide 100% transparency on what happened April 26th on Ocean Boulevard.
