Rocket Pro confirmed the news in an email to HousingWire Wednesday, adding that Sweeney starts today and that Rocket employees found out about the news this morning. A spokesperson from the company wrote “Katie has dedicated her career to helping improve and grow the broker community through leadership positions at ARIVE, AIME and Broker Action Coalition (BAC). Now she is continuing that important work at Rocket Pro.”
In the newly-created role, Sweeney will report to Rocket Pro General Manager Dan Sogorka and will focus on ensuring that Rocket is aligned with federal policy positions and that Rocket’s story and history are better communicated to customers.
“‘I’ve known [Katie] for a long time, and she was one of the people that was top of mind when I started at Rocket Pro,” Sogorka shared in an interview with HousingWire. “Our goal at Rocket Pro is to be America’s most trusted home ownership team, and that means us, the people that we work with, and our broker partners. Broker advocacy is more important than ever, and Katie’s been the most well-known broker advocate in the space.”
Sweeney shared that she bonded with Rocket through BAC. “That was our first real interaction with one another, so I think we’re already very aligned federally with BAC’s objectives,” she said. “I think the advocacy component [of my new role] is going to be a great piece of my role, but I’m excited that there are a handful of other opportunities that I’ll have such as continuing the concept of democratizing technology for small businesses.”
Sweeney will remain as a board advisor to BAC. In her post announcing the transition, Sweeney wrote “I’m so proud of everything we’ve accomplished at the BAC in the past two and a half years, and I’m excited to continue supporting this amazing team in a new capacity. We’ve brought awareness, credibility, and action to a grassroots movement built for and by mortgage brokers — and there is so much more we will accomplish in 2025 and beyond.”
Sweeney previously led the Association of Independent Mortgage Experts (AIME) as its CEO until March 2024.
“Our objective [at AIME] was always to bring as many people from diverse backgrounds together as possible. In my time there, we grew by over 400% but more than that, we diversified. We went from less than 10% female membership to close to 50%. None of that was focused on who did business with what lender. That was never a stance that I wanted to take, nor did I feel was appropriate for aim to be involved in. That hasn’t always been the history of that association, but it certainly was the truth when I was there,” Sweeney said.
Sweeney also held former posts at ARIVE as its EVP, strategy and was the vice president of front-end solutions at Pacific Union Financial. She has been named as a 2023 HousingWire Vanguard and a HW Woman of Influence in 2022 and 2023.
