The South Carolina Department of Public Safety verified that state transport police pulled over a commercial vehicle due to an absent license plate on the attached trailer. Other officials identified the vehicle as a tractor-trailer. While conducting the stop, the driver, an individual from Illinois, reportedly informed investigators that there was an explosive device located inside the trailer.
Law enforcement closed all six lanes of I 85 as a result, initiating an investigation that involved the FBI, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., Greenville County Sheriff’s Office officials verified that the interstate would be reopened due to the resolution of the safe situation. After conducting a thorough search, authorities concluded that no explosive devices were present. The tractor-trailer driver has been apprehended by the state transport police, as reported by the sheriff’s office.
