Curtis Fuller, Coastal Carolina Defensive coach, hired by #1 rival App State.

Curtis Fuller recently joined the growing number of departures from the Coastal Carolina football team. Numerous players, such as quarterbacks Ethan Vasko and Noah Kim, have entered the transfer portal. Additionally, redshirt sophomore linebacker Clev Lubin has also announced his decision to enter the transfer portal.

After losing the Myrtle Beach Bowl to USTA and posting a 6 wins 7 loss season, many locals now question if Coach Tim Beck is the right fit for the team. Beck inherited a winning program from former Head Coach Jamey Chadwell.

Chadwell, as the Head Coach at Liberty University, is carrying on a legacy of victory. The Chanticleers are no strangers to winning, but unfortunately, they have not experienced the same level of success under Beck’s guidance.

On December 30, 2024, Appalachian State University announced that Curtis Fuller, the cornerbacks coach at CCU, would be transitioning to a defensive assistant coach role at Appalachian State. Prior to the official announcement, Fuller hinted at the move by updating his profile on X with a photo of Kidd Brewer Stadium, Appalachian State’s football field.

Additionally, his location on the profile was listed as Boone, North Carolina, the home of the Mountaineers. This is seen locally as a huge blow and insult to the Chanticleers who have also suffered the loss of the football public relations media representative earlier this year. Reasons for his departure were never fully explained.

This year CCU finished tied for 5th and at the bottom of the Sun Belt East Conference.

The departure of Curtis Fuller to App State is the latest chapter in the Chanticleer Mountaineer rivalry,

It comes  comes less than two years after Curtis Fuller joined the Coastal Carolina football team.

Curtis Fuller has extensive experience coaching defense at various levels. He has a background as a defensive back in the NFL and has served as an assistant coach for several seasons. In 2018, ESPN reported that Curtis Fuller stepped down from his position as the Carolina Panthers’ defensive backs coach following allegations of workplace misconduct.

Fuller was hired by Beck despite those allegations.
