Hayden Johnson: From delivering Christmas Trees to Delivering CCU into the NCAA World Series

On Christmas last year, Hayden Johnson delivered Christmas trees to homes in Socastee, South Carolina. Today, he delivered the win for the Chanticleers by getting three straight outs in the ninth inning after giving up a double to Eric Guevara.

The southpaw, in his second year, threw three innings without allowing any runs, conceding two hits while striking out five batters. Coastal Carolina’s Jacob Morrison started the game, pitching six innings and yielding one run on six hits and three walks.

The former Socastee High School standout delivered for Coastal Carolina University.

Coastal Carolina secured a spot in the 2025 College World Series by beating Auburn 4-1 last Saturday, becoming the first team to qualify. The Chanticleers advanced by sweeping the Tigers in their regional tournament at home.

Auburn was ahead 1-0 until the seventh inning when Coastal Carolina scored three runs. Sebastian Alexander led off with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Blake Barthol. Walker Mitchell then singled to bring in a run, leveling the score at 1-1.

Tigers pitcher Cade Fisher induced a fly out from Colby Thorndyke, but then the following four Chanticleers batters successfully got on base, leading to two runs being scored. Blagen Pado singled, Ty Dooley capitalized on an error made by Auburn first baseman Connor McMurray, Ty Borrango walked, and Wells Sykes was hit by a pitch.
