Coastal Carolina’s strong pitching in the College World Series on Sunday put them in a good position to win their second national championship. With Jacob Morrison (12-0), a First-team All-American pitcher, leading the way, the Chanticleers held Oregon State to one unearned run on five hits, clinching a 6-2 win in front of 24,490 fans at Charles Schwab Field.
Jacob Morrison’s Impact on Coastal Carolina’s Success
CCU’s latest win pushed their record to 55-11 and extended their winning streak to 25 games. Advancing to the CWS best-of-three championship series hinges on winning Wednesday’s 2 p.m. winners bracket game. Coastal’s next opponent will be the victor of Tuesday’s 2 p.m. elimination match between Oregon State (48-15-1) and Louisville (41-23) for the Bracket 1 spot in the championship series. Should OSU or Louisville triumph over CCU on Wednesday, an additional game on Thursday will be necessary to determine the Bracket 1 champion.
Hayden Johnson came in the game in the 8th. With two outs, Blagen Pado made a clutch catch against the outfield wall sending the game to the 9th.
Johnson would give up one home run in relief to Gavin Turley of Oregon State.
Ryan Lynch would follow in relief securing the Coastal Carolina Win.
