In our Myrtle Beach, The Brand Series, we explained the origins of Burroughs and Chapins, who own Broadway at the Beach. We also highlighted socialite, Elizabeth Chapin Patterson, who consecrated the town of Myrtle Beach to Guru Meher Baba in the late 1940’s.
Founder’s daughter leaves B&C stock to Guru who said he was God
The Meher Baba foundation is a principle shareholder in Burroughs and Chapin and owns considerable Myrtle Beach downtown buildings. Net profits from operations are paid to the foundation each time a dividend is paid by Burroughs and Chapin.
Meher Baba (born Merwan Sheriar Irani; 25 February [O.S. 17 February] 1894, died on January 31, 1969) was an Indian spiritual master who said he was the Avatar, or God in human form, of the age. He also stated he was and is Jesus Christ.
The Myrtle Beach town founder’s daughter, Patterson, consecrated the city to Meher Baba in the early 1950’s. Upon her death, she left her shares of Burroughs and Chapin stock to the Guru’s foundation.
