PalmettoSC News will focus on state politics, business, crime and corruption. The “news site” launches this December, just before the 2026 legislative session begins. “If it bleeds, it leads” is a saying in journalism, meaning that news stories about violence tend to be prioritized and get more attention.
David Hucks, a Content Contributor at MyrtleBeachSC News, acknowledged that despite not fully supporting that sentiment, the violent events in downtown Myrtle Beach during Spring 2025 led to a significant increase in the popularity of their on-air broadcasts and news content. He highlighted that while traditional news outlets are losing viewers, their unique news coverage approach has been widely embraced and highly successful.
In 2023, Hucks asked Myrtle-Beach.com, LLC investors to start planning an exit strategy from his involvement in the news outlet. However, the investors rather opted to develop a video broadcasting platform, utilized artificial intelligence for news collection, and engaged in a podcasting agreement.
“They were right and I was wrong,” said Hucks. In 2025, investors were given a seven figure offer to sell the limited liability corporation.
Investors were inspired by the potential of A.I. to enhance transparency in state government, leading them to reject the offer and invest in PalmettoSC News, a statewide news initiative.
“Investors suddenly realized they were in the right place at the right time,” said Hucks. “Legacy news outlets already exist state-wide, and a political news operator in Columbia has an audience, but no one occupies the space where Myrtle-Beach.com, LLC investors see the biggest opportunities,” Hucks added.
Recent time spent with one of the few level 5 leaders in the state also encouraged Hucks to stay on with the team in experiencing this transition.
“I am certainly not a level 5 leader, but I know when I am around them and I know how to get out of the way,” said Hucks.
PalmettoSC News represents the future of news, utilizing emerging technologies. The investor group will prioritize their definition of integrity as they embark on this new project.
“Our investor group put its fundamental journalistic creed in writing in 2004 with the launch of MyrtleBeachSC News: “Integrity is the ability to meet the demands of reality,” Hucks added. “This core value will remain with Myrtle-Beach.com, LLC as the team launches the new state-wide PalmettoSC News.”
Myrtle-Beach.com, LLC intends to apply similar cutting-edge technological advancements to enhance MyrtleBeachSC News. MyrtleBeachSC News is one of the top news outlets in Horry County.
MyrtleBeachSC News currently boasts more than 274,000 voluntary subscribers, all of whom are residents of Horry County.
