South Carolina overtakes Texas as number 1 moved to state

In 2024 South Carolina became the number 1 moved to state in America. S.C. knocked Texas out of the number one spot according to Uhaul.

S.C. #1 moved to state, Myrtle Beach #5 moved to city

Myrtle Beach is the No. 5 U.S. Growth City of 2024, according to the U-Haul Growth Index analyzing one-way customer moves over the past year.

Myrtle Beach rises five spots from its No. 10 ranking of 2023.
Of all the U-Haul traffic to come and go from Myrtle Beach last year, more than 53% was incoming and 47% outgoing.

Looking at year-over-year variations, arrivals were down nearly 3% in 2024 (compared to 2023) while departures were down 4% as overall moving traffic slowed.

With more residents staying, South Carolina’s coastal destination saw a larger net gain of U-Haul customers making it the number 1 moved to state.

Myrtle Beach started off more as a vacation home spot, but then the whole
city started to grow and become more than a beach community. It has
basically developed into a full city,
” said Matthew Mccoy, U-Haul Company
of Southern Atlantic Coast president. “It has expanded to have more
shopping, hotels and other aspects that make it more than just an area for
snowbirds to come down during the summer. There is a huge Canadian
population in this area, but there are also a lot of people coming in from the
northeastern states.

In addition to its annual top 25 growth cities list, U-Haul recognized its top
25 growth metropolitan areas for the first time.

The top growth cities (city propers) are from markets outside the leading metros, allowing more
communities to be recognized for their ability to attract and retain do-it-
yourself movers.

South Carolina is the #1 moved to state for the first time in Uhaul’s history. However, the state has been in the top five for several years.

Blue State flight is considered among the top reason SC is the number 1 moved to state.
