Trump critic Brenda Bethune launches 2025 Mayoral campaign

Brenda Bethune is an ardent Nikki Haley supporter and key Donald Trump critic. This week she informed local media that she plans to run for re-election as Myrtle Beach Mayor.

The mayor has made Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion her top priorities since the beginning of her time in office. She has fundamentally shifted the focus of Myrtle Beach city government by being a vocal advocate for child transgender healthcare.

In 2025, Brenda Bethune says she wants to build relationships.

Brenda Bethune told local news she wants to strengthen the city’s relationship with the county and state.

Myrtle Beach used to have complete control over the county’s politics, but at the same time, the city decided to isolate itself, coinciding with a rapid increase in population in Carolina Forest and the Longs to Little River areas of Horry County.

The City of Myrtle Beach is no longer the power player in the county it once was.

Brenda Bethune mentioned that informal get-togethers with Horry County officials outside of work hours have facilitated their joint efforts on initiatives such as the refurbishment of Pelicans Ballpark and enhancements to the road network.

The state-funded 24th Avenue ocean outfall project, with a cost of $40 million, is a major priority in the City of Myrtle Beach. Its completion is anticipated in early next year, according to Bethune.

Improving infrastructure and stormwater systems in the Arts and Innovations District, along with other parts of the city, is now a top priority, according to Brenda Bethune.

The Arts and Innovations district in Myrtle Beach has seen the City spend more than $30 million on acquiring publicly funded land in an effort to attract new businesses. However, as of now, there has been limited interest from businesses in relocating to the downtown area.

Many shops are closing their doors in the city limits.

“We are looking as far north and as far south as we can,” Bethune said. “We want everybody to see these improvements and to know that they are just as important to us as downtown is. Downtown really does affect everybody.”

Brenda Bethune’s vision is to transform the downtown area into a thriving tech hub. Regrettably, only a minority of the council members possess a comprehensive understanding of the intricate dynamics associated with achieving this goal.

Bethune expressed her desire to maintain her seat and continue the work she has initiated, while keeping all of those goals in mind.

Brenda Bethune was extremely critical of President Trump’s remarks speaking at a rally for Nikki Haley at Coastal Carolina University last year. She predicted the remarks of President Trump would keep him from being elected President.

MAGA voters saw it differently.
