For the first time in decades, the US-Mexico border is silent

The White House shared an article in a press release today from the Arizona Republic.

The paper writes that for the first time in decades, the US-Mexico Border is silent.

Border Patrol agents at the U.S.-Mexico border intercepted approximately 10,000 illegal border crossings in May 2025, as reported by the New York Post.

In comparison to April 2025, there was a 20% rise, yet the figures remain notably beneath the peak US-Mexico Border crossing levels under the Biden administration. More precisely, the count of unauthorized illegal immigrants encountered in May is 91% lower than in May 2024.

In April of 2024, during the Biden Administration, there were 128,895 encounters documented by the U.S. Border Patrol along the southwest border, comprising 126,361 encounters at ports of entry and 2,534 at-large encounters.

Not only has President Trump silenced the US-Mexico border, but he has also ended former President Biden’s immigrant fly ins from those countries listed above.

Biden’s US-Mexico border disaster

The Biden administration’s program of humanitarian parole permits a monthly entry into the US of up to 30,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela (CHNV) who have a financial sponsor and fulfill other requirements. This initiative is a crucial component of the administration’s approach to managing migration from these nations.

Migrant Encounters and Releases at the Border:

  • Since the start of fiscal year 2021, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has recorded over 10.8 million nationwide US-Mexico boder encounters, including over 8.72 million at the Southwest border.
  • Some sources indicate that the Biden administration has released more than 3.3 million US-Mexico border crossers into the United States since 2021, and that these releases represent less than half of the total apprehensions at the southern border.
  • Another source states that roughly 2.3 million people encountered by Border Patrol have been released into the U.S. under Biden’s administration.

Parole Programs:

  • The Biden administration has used various parole programs, like the CBP One app and the CHNV program (for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans), to admit a significant number of immigrants.
  • Over 1.3 million individuals have been granted entry through these programs since January 2023, according to one source.
  • Combined, the CBP One app and CHNV program have paroled in over 1.4 million immigrants.

Legal Immigration and Refugee Resettlement:

  • Legal immigration admissions, such as those becoming lawful permanent residents (LPRs) or receiving visas, have reportedly surpassed pre-pandemic levels under Biden.
  • From fiscal year 2021 to 2024, approximately 4.3 million noncitizens became LPRs.
  • In fiscal year 2024, the U.S. welcomed over 100,000 refugees, the highest number in a single year since the mid-1990s, indicating a rebuilding of the refugee resettlement system.

Naturalizations:

  • Nearly 3.5 million immigrants have been granted U.S. citizenship during Biden’s term, which is considered the most naturalizations of any presidential term.
